Job Description:
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Analytical / Industrial Chemist with expertise in chemical analysis, quality control, and hazardous materials handling. The ideal candidate holds relevant certifications in Dangerous Goods (DG) Management and has hands-on experience in laboratory testing, process optimization, and regulatory compliance within industrial or research settings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Chemical Analysis & Laboratory Operations
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products using techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, AAS, ICP-OES, and wet chemistry methods.
- Perform stability testing, batch testing, and environmental monitoring in compliance with ISO, KEBS, or other regulatory standards.
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
2. Dangerous Goods (DG) Handling & Safety Compliance
- Ensure safe storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous chemicals in line with Kenyas DG regulations (NEMA, OSHA, IATA/IMDG for transport).
- Prepare Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and risk assessments for hazardous substances.
- Train staff on DG protocols, emergency response, and spill containment procedures.
3. Quality Control & Process Improvement
- Develop and validate analytical methods to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Document test results, deviations, and corrective actions in alignment with GMP/GLP guidelines.
- Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot chemical process issues and optimize yields.
4. Regulatory & Reporting Duties
- Ensure compliance with Kenyan regulatory bodies (KEBS, NEMA, PPB) and international standards.
- Prepare technical reports, COAs (Certificates of Analysis), and audit documentation.
- Stay updated on changes in chemical safety laws and industry best practices.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Analytical Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, or related field.
- Certification in Dangerous Goods (DG) Handling (e.g., IATA, IMDG, or Kenya-specific DG courses).
- 3+ years of experience in a chemical lab, manufacturing plant, or hazardous materials environment.
- Proficiency in analytical instrumentation and data analysis software (e.g., ChemStation, Empower).
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan chemical safety regulations (NEMA, OSHA, KEBS).
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and teamwork skills.
